Progranulin(PGRN)isawidelyexpressedpluripotentgrowthfactorwhichplaysaroleinprocessessuchasdevelopment,woundrepairandinflammationbyactivatingsignalingcascadesthatcontrolcellcycleprogressionandcellmotility.Itsfunctioninthecentralnervoussystemisofinterest,asmutationsinthePGRNgenewerefoundincasesoffrontotemporaldegeneration(FTLD).Inaddition,PGRNhasalsobeenlinkedtotumOrigenesis.ProgranulinisabioMarkerforFTLD,othertypesofAlzheimer‘sDisease(AD)andpotentiallyforMCI(MildCognitiveImpairment).Additionally,PGRNisdescribedasanewligandofTNFreceptorsandapotentialtherapeuticagainstinflammatorydiseaselikearthritis.
