FGFR1,alsoknownasCD331,belongstothefibroblastgrowthfactorreceptorsubfamilywhereaminoacidsequenceishighlyconservedbetweenmembersandthroughoutevolution.FGFRfamilymembersdifferfromoneanotherintheirligandaffinitiesandtissuedistribution.Fibroblastgrowthfactors(FGFs)(FGF1-10and16-23)aremitogenicsignalingmoleculesthathaverolesinangiogenesis,woundhealing,cellmigration,neuraloutgrowthandembryonicdevelopment.FGFsbindheparansulfateglycosaminoglycans,whichfacilitatesdimerization(activation)ofFGFreceptors.FGFR1isafull-lengthrepresentativeproteinconsistsofanextracellularregion,composedofthreeimmunoglobulin-likedomains,asinglehydrophobicmembrane-spanningsegmentandacytoplasmictyrosinekinasedomain.TheextracellularportionofFGFR1interactswithfibroblastgrowthfactors,settinginmotionacascadeofdownstreamsignals,ultimatelyinfluencingmitogenesisanddifferentiation.Thisparticularfamilymemberbindsbothacidicandbasicfibroblastgrowthfactorsandisinvolvedinlimbinduction.CD331canbedetectedinastrocytoma,neuroblastomaandadrenalcortexcelllines.
