Nelfinavirisananti-retroviraldrugusedinthetreatmentofthehumanimmunodeficiencyvirus(HIV).ItisapotentHIVproteaseinhibitorwithpotentantiviralactivity(95%effectivedose=0.04µg/ml)againstanumberofHIV-1strainsinacuteandchronicmodelsofinfection.Nelfinavirisaneffectiveanti-canceragent,withanEC50of3.1-5.2µMandinducedapoptosisandautophagicresponses.ItmediatesAKTsignalingdemonstratinginhibitionofendogenousandgrowthfactor-inducedAktactivation.Nelfinavirdecreasedtheviabilityofapanelofdrug-resistantbreastcancercelllinesandinhibitedthegrowthofNSCLCxenograftsthatwasassociatedwithinductionofERstress,autophagyandapoptosis.
