N-Tetradecanoyl-L-homoserinelactoneisasmalldiffusIBLesignalingmoleculeandisamemberofN-acyl-homoserinelactonefamily.N-acylhomoserinelactones(AHL)areinvolvedinquorumsensing,controllinggeneexpression,andcellularmetabolism.Thediverseapplicationsofthiskindofmoleculeincluderegulationofvirulenceingeneral,infectionprevention,andformationofbiofilms.ItappearslaterthanshorteracylchainAHLsindevelopingbiofilmsand,likeotherlongchainAHLs,stimulatesbacterialgrowth.C14-HSLalsoalterstheproteolyticactivityandenhancesthemigrationofsomestrainsofProteusmirabilis.InducesviolaceinexpressioninaChromobacteriumviolaceummutantusuallynotabletoproducehomoserinelactones.
