- N-Acetyl-D-glucosamine(D-GlcNAc)isanon-toxicderivatizedglucosemonosaccharidefoundinpolymers(Peptidoglycan;PGN)ofbacterialcellwalls,chitin(e.g.fungi,invertebrates,crustaceans),hyaluronicacidsandvariousglycans.Itisalsosynthesizedintheglycosylationpathwayasuridinediphosphate(UDP-GlcNAc),whichcanthenbereleasedfollowingdegradationofglycosylatedproteins.
- AtypicalmicrobialdangersignalthatactsasanewactivatorofNLRP3inflammasomebydissociatingtheenzymehexokinasefromthemitochondria.D-GlcNAcinhibitspurifiedhexokinase,whichisalsoinvolvedintheglucosemetabolismandobesityinmMrange.Forhexokinasedissociationfromthemitochondriamuchhigherconcentrationsareneeded.
