N-(3-Oxotetradecanoyl)-L-homoserinelactoneisasmalldiffusIBLesignalingmoleculeandisamemberofN-acyl-homoserinelactonefamily.N-acylhomoserinelactones(AHL)areinvolvedinquorumsensing,controllinggeneexpression,andcellularmetabolism.Thediverseapplicationsofthiskindofmoleculeincluderegulationofvirulenceingeneral,infectionprevention,andformationofbiofilms.ItappearslaterthanshorteracylchainAHLsindevelopingbiofilmsandlikeotherlongchain3-oxo-AHLs,stimulatestheproductionofputisolvin,whichinturninhibitsbiofilmformation.
