Proteinphosphatase-1(PP1)isoneofthemajorSer/Thrproteinphosphatasesandisubiquitousineukaryoticcells.PP1islocalizedtoitssiteofactionbyinteractingwithtargetingorregulatoryproteins,amajorityofwhichcontainsaprimarydockingsitereferredtoastheRVXF/Wmotif.ThecatalyticsubunitofPP1existsasthreeisoforms,PP1a,PP1b,andPP1r.ThePP1catalyticsubunitsaresmallproteinsof37kDa,whicharehighlyconserved,withtheirmaindifferencesfallingintheC-term.ThePP1catalyticsubunitexistsinthecellincomplexwithalargenumberoftargeting/regulatorysubunits,therebygeneratingdifferentenzymeformsthatallowittoperformadiversenumberofcellularfunctions.Proteinphosphatase1(PP1)isessentialforcelldivision,andparticipatesintheregulationofglycogenmetabolism,musclecontractilityandproteinsynthesis.Involvedinregulationofionicconductancesandlong-termsynapticplasticity.Mayplayanimportantroleindephosphorylatingsubstratessuchasthepostsynapticdensity-associatedCa2+/calmodulindependentproteinkinaseII.
