The cytokine human interferon-γ (IFN-γ) is a glycosylated protein that exists as a homodimer of 34kDa in its biologically active form. IFN-γ is expressed upon activation by TH1 cells CD8+ cells and NK cells. Secreted IFN-γ is a potent inhibitor of in vitro hematopoiesis and appears to serve as an important regulator of lymphocyte and macrophage function by exerting antiproliferative effects.
