TheHeatshockprotein70(HSP70)familywasfoundinmanyintracellularcompartments.Membersofthisproteinoccurinchloroplasts,endoplasmicreticulum,mitochondria,andcytosol.TheseproteinsareinducedbyavarietyofBIOLOGicalstresses,includingheatstress,ineveryorganism.HSP70servesavarietyofroles:1)Itactsasmolecularchaperonesfacilitatingtheassemblyofmulti-proteincomplexes,2)Itparticipatesinthetranslocationofpolypeptidesacrosscellmembranesandtothenucleus3)Itaidsintheproperfoldingofnascentpolypeptidechains.HSP70ismitochondrialimportmachineryandplayskeyrolesinthecytosolicendoplasmicreticulum.Recently,extracellularlocalizedHSPhavebeenfoundtoplaykeyrolesintheinductionofacellularimmuneresponse.Incooperationwithotherchaperones,Hsp70sstabilizepreexistentproteinsagainstaggregationandmediatethefoldingofnewlytranslatedpolypeptidesinthecytosolaswellaswithinorganelles.Thesechaperonesparticipateinalltheseprocessesthroughtheirabilitytorecognizenonnativeconformationsofotherproteins.Theybindextendedpeptidesegmentswithanethydrophobiccharacterexposedbypolypeptidesduringtranslationandmembranetranslocation,orfollowingstress-induceddamage.IncaseofrotavirusAinfection,servesasapost-attachmentreceptorforthevirustofacilitateentryintothecell.
