Cyclin-dependentkinases(cdk)belongtoagroupofproteinkinasesoriginallydiscoveredasbeinginvolvedintheregulationofthecellcycle.CdksarealsoinvolvedintheregulationoftranscriptionandmRNAprocessing.ACdkisactivatedbyassociationwithacyclin,formingacyclin-dependentkinasecomplex.Cdk1,alsoknownascelldivisioncontrolprotein2(cdc2),isoneofthecomponentsofthematurationpromotingfactor(MPF)whichisessentialforG1/SandG2/Mphasetransitionsofeukaryoticcellcycle.Cdk1,whenboundtocyclinB,allowsadividingcelltoenterintomitosisfromG2andpermitsthetransitionfromG1throughSinconjunctionwithcyclinAandcyclinE.TheCdk1proteinisconstantlypresentthroughoutthecelldivisioncycle,butitsactivityisfinelytunedbymeansofprotein-proteininteractionsandreversIBLephosphorylation.Cdk1canalsoenhancecellmigration.IncreasedlevelsofCdk1promotecellmigrationtogetherwithcyclinB2andtheactin-stabilizingproteincaldesmon.Phosphorylationofcaldesmonboundtoactinresultsinthedisplacementofcaldesmonfromactinfollowedbythealteredinteractionofactinwithmyosin.Theseeventscontributetoincreasedcellmigration.
