Auroraproteinkinasefamily(consistingofAurora-A,-Band-C)isanimportantgroupofenzymesthatcontrolsseveralaspectsofcelldivisioninmammaliancells.Inhumans,Aurora-Aislocalizedtothecentrosomeinprophase,subsequentlyspreADIngtothemitoticspindles/centrosomes.Aurora-Bisfoundatthekinetochore,mainlyatthemidzone,duringanaphase.Aurora-Cislocalizedtothecentrosomesfromanaphasetocytokinesis.AuroraBisthecatalyticcomponentofthechromosomalpassengercomplex,whichiscomposedofthreeadditionalnoncatalyticsubunitsthatdirectitsactivity:survivin,INCEP,andborealin.AuroraBappearstoberequiredforseveralmitoticprocesses,includingaberrantchromosomealignment/segregationandcytokinesis.PhosphorylationofHistoneH3(Ser10andSer28)byAuroraBcontributestochromosomenumberinstabilityandmitoticchromosomecondensation.Maybedirectlyinvolvedinregulatingthecleavageofpolarspindlemicrotubulesandisakeyregulatorfortheonsetofcytokinesisduringmitosis.Componentofthechromosomalpassengercomplex(CPC),acomplexthatactsasakeyregulatorofmitosis.TheCPCcomplexhasessentialfunctionsatthecentromereinensuringcorrectchromosomealignmentandsegregationandisrequiredforchromatin-inducedmicrotubulestabilizationandspindleassembly.Phosphorylates"Ser-10"and"Ser-28"ofhistoneH3duringmitosis.RequiredforkinetochorelocalizationofBUB1.
