α-1-Bglycoprotein(A1BG)whichisaplasmaproteinwithnoknownfunctionbelongstotheimmunoglobulinsuperfamily.AlthoughthehumanA1BGhasbeenknownforfourdecades,andtheinformationabouttheaminoacidsequence,chromosomalassignment,andevengeneticpolymorphismindifferentpopulationshavebeenknown,noBIOLOGicalfunctionhasbeensuggested.A1BG(Mrapproximatelyequalto63,000)consistsofonepolypeptidechainof474aminoacidswithfourglucosamineoligosaccharides.Thepolypeptidehasfiveintrachaindisulfidebondsandconsistsoffiverepeatingstructuraldomains,eachcontainingabout95aminoacidsandonedisulfidebond.Recentlyhumancystein-richsecretoryprotein3(CRISP-3)hasbeenfoundtobeabindingpartnerofA1BG,suggestingtheA1BG-CRISP-3complexdisplaysaprotectingfunctionfromapotentiallyharmfuleffectoffreeCRISP-3incirculation.
